Phones by brand
Pixel 10 / 10a / Pro / XL / Pro Fold
Excellent baseThe whole 10 series — including the new 10a — is fully supported by GrapheneOS (since late 2025) with a 7-year runway (updates to Aug 2032+). LineageOS has official builds for the 10 and 10 Pro; CalyxOS covers the 10a only.
Pixel 9a
Excellent baseOur value pick. Four excellent operating systems to choose from and updates to 2032.
Pixel 9 / 9 Pro / Pro XL / Pro Fold
Excellent baseFlagship hardware, full OS menu, updates to 2031–2032.
Pixel 8 / 8 Pro / 8a
Excellent baseThe sweet spot used or new — first Pixels with a 7-year hardware promise (updates to 2030–2031).
Pixel 7 / 7 Pro / 7a
Excellent baseGreat renewed buy. Google's updates run to Oct 2027 (7 / 7 Pro) and May 2028 (7a), and GrapheneOS fully supports all three until then.
Pixel 6 / 6 Pro / 6a
Excellent baseCheapest way into GrapheneOS, but the runway is short: Google's updates end Oct 2026 for the 6 / 6 Pro and July 2027 for the 6a. Fine for a starter phone, don't expect years of updates.
Pixel Fold (2023)
WorkableThe only foldable with real degoogled support — GrapheneOS and CalyxOS both ship official builds for it (felix).
Pixel 5 or older
WorkableGrapheneOS has dropped these, but CalyxOS still ships builds for the 4a (5G) / 5 / 5a and iodéOS covers the Pixel 5. LineageOS and /e/OS keep many more alive — good hand-me-down or test phone, not a secure daily driver.
Fairphone (Gen. 6)
Excellent baseThe newest Fairphone — buy it from Murena with /e/OS preinstalled and skip flashing, or flash the new official CalyxOS beta.
Fairphone 5
Excellent baseSales ended in January 2026, so it's a used buy now. Repairable for a decade, and one of the few non-Pixels with official CalyxOS.
Fairphone 4
Excellent baseStill a solid used buy. CalyxOS extended support, /e/OS fully supported.
Signature 27
GrapheneOS confirmed, comingGrapheneOS confirmed (Sep 22, 2026) this will be its first supported non-Pixel phone, but no builds are out yet. On sale in the US and Canada from November 2026. Until GrapheneOS ships it, harden the stock OS — or pick a Pixel if you need GrapheneOS today. Details: dgdroid.com/phones/motorola-signature-27/
moto g 5G (2024) / g84 / g45 / g34
Excellent baseBudget phones with official CalyxOS — a low-cost way into a first-class degoogled OS. CalyxOS estimates the g 5G (2024) gets updates to about March 2027.
moto g52 / g42 / g32
WorkableOlder budget Motos with a surprising double life: official CalyxOS and iodéOS builds for all three.
Edge series (2021–2024)
WorkableOfficial Motorola unlock + official LineageOS builds for most Edge models. A real flashing project, but well documented.
Other Moto G models
WorkableUnlocking is official via Motorola. OS support varies model by model — check the LineageOS and /e/OS device lists for yours.
OnePlus 13 / 13R / 12
WorkableFlagship-killer hardware; LineageOS supports the 13 (LineageOS 24) and the 12 (23.2) officially, and iodéOS the 13. The install is fastboot-based — doable in an evening. Newer OnePlus 13 firmware has an anti-rollback fuse: never flash an older build.
OnePlus 11 / 10 series
WorkableWell supported by LineageOS, cheap used. Good tinkerer value.
Nord series
WorkableSupport varies by exact Nord model — check the device lists before buying.
Nothing Phone 3 / 3a
WorkableThe bootloader unlocks, but as of September 2026 no official degoogled OS ships builds for the Phone 3 or 3a yet. Until one lands, the hardening plan below is the honest play.
Nothing Phone (1) / Phone (2)
WorkableBoth have official LineageOS builds and /e/OS support; the Phone (1) even runs Ubuntu Touch. The 2a has no official builds.
CMF Phone 1
WorkableNothing's budget line unlocks too, and /e/OS ships an official build for the CMF Phone 1.
Xperia 1 / 5 / 10 series
WorkableThe quiet giant: /e/OS covers almost the whole modern Xperia range, LineageOS the 1 V / 10 V, Sailfish X the 10 II–IV, iodéOS the 1 V / 5 V. Sony's unlock wipes some camera calibration — read up before you commit. The US Xperia 1 V (XQ-DQ62) can't be unlocked at all: buy the XQ-DQ54 (EU) or XQ-DQ72 (Asia).
Galaxy Z Fold / Flip series
Can't be flashedFoldables ship with locked bootloaders (always in the US) and no stable degoogled OS exists for them. You can't replace the OS — but you can strip most of the tracking out of it.
Galaxy S series (international)
WorkableSnapdragon US models: locked. Exynos international models: often unlockable, with /e/OS and LineageOS builds for many S10–S21 generations. Know exactly which model number you have.
Galaxy S series (US model)
Can't be flashedUS carrier and US-unlocked Samsungs have permanently locked bootloaders — a degoogled OS is off the table. The hardening plan below removes most tracking from stock Android.
Galaxy A series
WorkableSame story: international A-series models often have /e/OS or LineageOS builds; US models are locked. Check the model number before flashing plans.
Poco F5 / F6 series
WorkableLineageOS community favorites — flagship chip, midrange price, official F5 and F6 builds. Xiaomi's unlock process takes about a week of waiting.
Xiaomi 13 / 14 / Redmi Note
WorkablePossible, but the week-long unlock wait and model-variant maze make this a tinkerer's path. Worth it if you already own one.
SHIFTphone 8
Excellent baseShips with SHIFT's own Google-light OS and is an official CalyxOS target — the only non-Pixel, non-Fairphone, non-Moto on Calyx's list.
Murena One / Two
Private out of the boxMurena's own-brand phones ship with /e/OS preinstalled — nothing to flash, ever. They're no longer in Murena's shop (October 2026): look for a used one, or get Murena's Fairphone (Gen. 6) instead.
Jolla C2
Private out of the boxShips with Sailfish OS — a genuinely independent European OS with an optional Android app layer. No Google anywhere in the stack.
Volla Phone X23 / Quintus
Private out of the boxShips with Volla OS (degoogled Android) and officially runs Ubuntu Touch — pick your world at boot. The X23 is the rugged one.
Librem 5
Linux phoneShips with PureOS (real GNU/Linux) and has three hardware kill switches for radios, camera and mic. postmarketOS also supports it. An enthusiast device, not an Android substitute.
PinePhone / PinePhone Pro
Linux phoneThe reference Linux phone: Nura (formerly postmarketOS) and a dozen other distros boot from an SD card. The PinePhone Pro was discontinued in Aug 2025; the original PinePhone is still sold. For tinkerers who want full control, not daily-driver polish.
iPhone
Can't be flashediPhones cannot be degoogled or de-Appled — iOS is locked down. The good news: trade-in values are high, which covers most of a Pixel 9a.
OS links go to each project's official install page. Levels and support notes researched September 2026 — the ratings page explains the scores.
How to use the directory
This page lists every phone family in our device database, grouped by brand, with every private operating system that officially supports it. Use the buttons at the top to show only the phones that run one system, such as GrapheneOS or Ubuntu Touch, or leave the full list open and scroll through by brand.
Each phone card carries a label:
- Excellent base: well-supported hardware with at least one first-class private OS. Most current Pixels and Fairphones sit here.
- Workable: a private OS exists, but expect a real flashing project, regional model differences or fewer choices.
- Private out of the box: the phone ships with a private OS already installed, such as the Jolla C2 or Volla phones.
- Linux phone: hardware built for mobile Linux, like the Librem 5 and PinePhone. Great for enthusiasts, but not a drop-in replacement for Android.
Below the label, every supported system appears with its privacy score out of 10. Phones with no supported system get a link to the hardening plan, which removes most tracking from the stock software instead.
Directory or checker?
Both use the same data. The directory shows the full picture on one page, which is handy if you’re shopping and want to know which phone fits a system you’ve already chosen. The checker asks for your brand and model and answers for that one phone, with a step-by-step plan. If you already own the phone, answer two questions about your model instead of scrolling.
How to read model names
Many cards cover a family, such as “Pixel 9 / 9 Pro / Pro XL / Pro Fold”. That means the listed systems support every model in the family, unless the note on the card says otherwise.
Samsung and Xiaomi need extra care. US Samsung phones have locked bootloaders, while many international models can be unlocked, so the card text tells you which is which. Xiaomi makes you wait about a week before it allows an unlock. Sony warns that unlocking an Xperia removes some camera calibration. Whenever a card says “check your exact model”, compare the model number in Settings → About phone with the OS project’s own device list.
Where the data comes from
Every entry was checked against the official support lists of GrapheneOS, CalyxOS, LineageOS, /e/OS, iodéOS, Ubuntu Touch and Sailfish OS. The last full check was on September 20, 2026, and we re-check every quarter. Projects add and drop phones between our checks, so always confirm on the project’s own page before you buy a phone for a particular system or unlock one you own.
Common questions
Why does a phone list several systems? Popular hardware is supported by more than one project. A Pixel 8, for example, can run GrapheneOS, CalyxOS, LineageOS, /e/OS or iodéOS. To choose between them, read how the Android-based systems differ.
What do the scores mean? They’re our editorial privacy scores for each system as it ships, from 0 to 10. The full scoring method and table explains them.
My phone isn’t here. What now? LineageOS and /e/OS each support hundreds of devices, far more than we list. Search their official device lists for your model.
