Privacy Policy
DGdroid's privacy policy: no cookies, no ad trackers, cookieless visit counting, an opt-in weekly email, minimal server logs.
For a site about de-Googling your phone, the privacy policy should be short. Ours is.
The short version
This site sets no cookies and runs no ad trackers. We count page visits with a cookieless tool that records nothing if your browser sends Do Not Track. If you sign up for the weekly email, we keep the record needed to prove you asked for it, and you can leave or have it erased at any time. That’s all. The details are below.
What we collect
- No ad trackers. No Google Analytics, no Meta pixel, no ad networks.
- No cookies are set by this site.
- Cookieless visit counting. We use a777web, a privacy-first analytics tool, to see which pages are useful. For each page view it records the page address, the referring page, your browser’s user agent, language, screen size and time zone. It sets no cookies and keeps nothing in your browser beyond a random per-tab session ID in
sessionStorage, which disappears when you close the tab. If your browser sends Do Not Track, nothing is recorded at all. - Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard web-server logs (IP address, user agent, pages requested) for security and debugging. They are not used for profiling and are rotated automatically.
Newsletter
The weekly email is optional and strictly double opt-in: signing up stores your address as pending, and you only get the weekly email after you click the link in the confirmation message we send.
- What we store when you sign up: your email address, the time you signed up, your IP address and browser user agent at that moment, the page you signed up on, and the version of the consent text you agreed to (currently
v1-2026-10-10). That’s the record that proves you asked to be subscribed. We also note when you confirmed, when you unsubscribed, and which weekly issues were sent to you, so nobody gets the same issue twice. - Send time: we look up the approximate location of your sign-up IP address (using the free IP Geolocation by DB-IP database, on our own server) only to decide whether your email goes out at 8:00 New York time or 8:00 California time. We don’t store the location.
- Where it lives: in a database on our own web host. We don’t use a newsletter service, and we never sell, rent or share the list.
- In the emails: no tracking pixels and no open tracking. Images load from dgdroid.com like any page on this site. Links back to dgdroid.com carry a campaign tag (
utm_source=newsletter), so our cookieless visit counter can tell a visit came from the email — we don’t track who clicked what. The weekly email contains no Amazon affiliate links. - Leaving: every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and mail apps that support one-click unsubscribe can use it directly. Unsubscribing stops all emails immediately. To have your record erased completely, reply to any dgdroid email or write to us through the contact form; we delete it.
- Spam protection: the form has a hidden spam trap and allows a few sign-up attempts per hour per IP address; attempt records are deleted after an hour.
Contact form
The contact page form asks for your email address, a subject and a message. When you send it:
- What we store: your email address, subject and message, the time, your IP address and browser user agent (to stop spam and limit how many messages one connection can send), and a fingerprint of the message so the same text isn’t forwarded twice in a day. The data sits in a database on our own web host that the public web can’t reach.
- Where it goes: the message is emailed to our inbox with your address as the reply address, so we can answer you. No form service or captcha company sees it.
- How long: stored copies are deleted automatically after 90 days. Ask through the form and we’ll delete yours sooner.
- What we don’t do: we never add contact addresses to the weekly email, share them, or sell them. The form sets no cookies.
Third parties
- Affiliate links. When you click an affiliate link (for example to Amazon), you leave this site and the destination’s own privacy policy applies. The link tells the merchant you came from DGdroid — that’s how commissions work.
- Almost no third-party content. No Google Fonts, no YouTube iframes, no ad or social scripts. The single external script is the a777web visit counter described above; fonts and images are self-hosted.
Your rights
We don’t run accounts or collect names. The only email addresses we hold are those of people who subscribed to the newsletter and confirmed it (see above), plus unconfirmed sign-ups awaiting confirmation. You can ask us for a copy of your newsletter record or have it erased at any time. Visit counts are used only in aggregate. For questions about server logs or analytics data, use our contact page. You can opt out of visit counting at any time by enabling Do Not Track in your browser.
Why we count visits at all
We count visits to learn which pages actually help people, so we know which guides to update and which to rewrite. Counts are used only in aggregate. We don’t build profiles of visitors, and we don’t share the counts with advertisers, because there are no advertisers.
Changes to this policy
If what we collect changes, we’ll update this page and the date below. The rest of the site, including our affiliate link rules, follows the same no-tracking pledge.
